‘Our best performance yet’ were the words of Josh Rice, a star player for the University of Leicester hockey first team, in the aftermath of the first’s emphatic 7-2 cup win versus the University of Nottingham fourth team.
Having endured a slow start to the season, Josh’s comment reflects the hard work and results the firsts have had over the course of the season so far.
Asked about how much the side has improved, Josh said: “We’ve worked incredibly hard to bounce back after a poor run of inconsistent form.
“The addition of Rohan Bhuhi (an U21 Great Britain player) to the team has also helped massively through his ability and confidence.”
With goals scored by five different players across the pitch, this performance encapsulated the preparation and skill of the team from throughout the season thus far.
The goal scorers included Rohan with a hat-trick, and goals from Josh, Alex Griffiths, Phil Hunt, and Zac Smith. The man of the match performance could have quite easily been given to any one of the players after such a resounding result.
Questioned on where he felt the team could finish in the league and cup this season, Josh said: “I have confidence in a cup run, and definitely a push for top of the table, but there’s a lot more matches to come.”
